Lipstick is back in fashion! The catwalks celebrated it, new collections are launching by the day, and tubes are literally flying off shelves!
Whilst lip-gloss sales figures are falling, those for lipstick continue to rise. Iconic department store Selfridges has just reported a whopping 35% rise in the sale of red lipstick alone over the past year.
Why are women returning to lipstick? The phenomenon is best explained by Peter Philips, Global Creative Director for Chanel: “Your whole attitude changes when you wear lipstick” he says. “You eat differently, you kiss differently, and you speak differently. It is like a woman wearing nail polish - her movements are more elegant and more feminine. Wearing lipstick is a way of expressing your femininity.”
Convinced? Pick carefully – as the shade you choose will say a lot about your personality. We’ve taken a look at the different options and asked Debra Robson-Lawrence how Semi-Permanent Make-up can help us achieve each look.
Nude
What it says: Wearing nude lipstick tells the world that you are relaxed, carefree, and quietly confident. You are happy with your looks and don’t need to make a statement to be noticed. The look is sophisticated and polished.
Celebrity fans of nude lipstick include Rihanna, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate Hudson.
Get the look: Debra Robson-Lawrence says: “For this look, I would recommend our Barely There Blush technique in either Lush (a nude beige) or Bare (a delicate baby pink). This subtle technique will leave lips looking full, smooth and super pretty!”
Pink
What it says: Pink lipstick implies that you are feminine and youthful. Pick a pale hue for a demure, almost innocent look – or opt for a brighter shade to communicate your sense of fun to the world!
Quirky songstress Katy Perry is regularly spotted wearing a bold bubble-gum pink shade – whilst Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall often opts for a lighter rose-coloured hue, which lends her complexion a fresh, youthful glow.
Get the look: “I’d use our Barely There Blush technique for this look too,” explains Debra Robson-Lawrence. “But this time I’d opt for Sugar (a fashionable hot pink), Juice (a darker rose pink) or Smoothie (a pretty baby pink).
Red
What it says: Painting your lips rouge will show that you are sexy, stylish, and confident. A pillar-box red pout will guarantee that you turn every head when you walk into a room, so steer clear if you prefer to disappear into the shadows!
Angelina Jolie, Dita Von Teese, and British beauty Gemma Atherton are all fans of matching their lipstick to the red carpet.
Get the Look: “For red lips, I would recommend our Tender Tint Lip Wash,” says Debra Robson-Lawrence. “The treatment is perfect if you are more of a ‘lipstick lady’ and prefer a flush of colour to brighten or alter the natural tone of your lips. The shades Passion and Hot would be perfect for this look.”
Coral/Orange
What it says: Opting for shades of orange or coral indicates that you are fun, fashionable, and adventurous. Sheer tones of coral will work well for days in the office, whilst brighter orange hues will instantly grab attention on a night out.
Hollywood starlet Jessica Biel loves painting her pout in shades of dark coral, whilst Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding dares to wear the brightest, colour-popping shades of orange.
Get the Look: Debra Robson Lawrence explains: “For orange or coral lips, I would advise our Lip Perfection Contour treatment. It creates softly diffused, ultra-flattering results. For a vibrant orange, I’d recommend Twist, whilst Spice is perfect for a softer look.”
What About Your Eyes?
** Breaking News! **
We’ve just launched Mylash – a prescription-only treatment that promises eyelashes as thick, dark, and long as Cheryl Cole!
The prescription-only service starts with a medical questionnaire and then provides you with a kit to stimulate lash growth at home. The product– a liquid form of bimatoprost – is applied to the lash line like liquid eyeliner. It absorbs into the hair bulb and stimulates increased growth rate.
You’ll start to notice results in just four weeks – and after 16 weeks, you’ll have a thicker, darker, longer flutter.
